Hey everybody, today’s News Dump has a theme! Today we are transporting back to the magical year of 1990, when the USA was still working on fighting its first war in Iraq and Mikhail Gorbachev was an international sex symbol. At least I think that’s how it went. I was 2 at the time. Memory might be a bit shady.
Anyway, news dump.
- The best movie of 1990 was Martin Scorsese’s Goodfellas, which has since become a classic of modern cinema. Now it could become a likely less-than-classic TV series on AMC, with the original film’s screenwriter Nicholas Pileggi on board.
- The Cosby Show began 1990 as the highest rated show on television, largely due to the fact that even six seasons in Bill Cosby still had some terrific material to use. The NY Times has a great collection of some of Cosby’s funniest moments over his entire TV career, and all the clips are worth checking out.
- And finally, Parks and Recreation has found a candidate to challenge Leslie Knope in the 2012 elections: Paul Rudd! This is so awesome it is worthy of a Leslie Knope iMovie video. How it fits into the theme of 1990, I’m not sure - I guess Paul Rudd was alive in 1990, and this news is spectacular, so that’s a good enough connection for me.
