WATCH THIS 2/28/2012 Much like the rest of the world, we like big round numbers. Like one thousand, that’s a really nice number. So nice it’s almost kind of attractive in a sexual way - but that’s a topic for another day. Today’s topic is that The Colbert Report, our beloved home for gleefully random political satire, is celebrating its 1000th episode this very evening at 11:30PM ET on Comedy Central. Watch and see what wonderful festivities Stephen has planned. I personally hope he battles a minotaur again.

NEWS DUMP 2/1/2012


Suck my news and kiss my dump, everyone.

  • As you may have gleaned from the above video,Eastbound & Downis coming back on February 19th, and is bringing Jason Sudeikis along for the ride. The humor of Kenny fucking Powers is an acquired taste (one that tastes like hooker spit and 8-balls), but for those who buy into Danny McBride’s John Rockeresque pitcher, this season looks as good as ever.
  • Stephen Colbert’s Super PAC raised over a million bucks. That seems like an unbelievable figure for a comedian to raise, but I refuse to be impressed by any monetary statistic after learning Transformers 3 made over a billion dollars.
  • Last night’s episode of New Girl directly addressed the unending dialogue surrounding Zooey Deschanel’s “manic pixie dreamgirl” status by pitting a pantsuited Lizzie Caplan against her. I stopped watching the show awhile back, but happened to catch this one, and was impressed. I may have to add that show back to the Watch This feature, at least until Caplan’s 3-episode guest stint finishes up.

News Dump 1/19/2012 Rick Perry has left the 2012 presidential race, and with him, a great deal of joy has left our lives. Cue sad trombone. Anyway, news dump. While we no longer have Rick Perry, we will always have Stephen Colbert - and this ad from his Jon Stewart’s Super PAC attacking Colbert himself provides a great deal of entertainment to fill that Rick Perry void. The wonders of the Jon Hammeo have been well documented - now, PBS is getting in on the fun, as Hamm will make an animated appearance on Martha Speaks next month. I for one would have preferred Hamm do a cameo on one of PBS’ more cultured children’s programs like Curious George, but at least he’s not schlumming it on Word World. (I have very strong opinions about the PBS children’s lineup) And finally, did this week’s Hawaii Five-O feature the worst product placement ever?

News Dump 1/5/2012

So, how many days until we’re all able to write the number “2012” without thinking of Mayan prophecy?

Anyway, news dump:

  • The New York Times has a lengthy feature of Stephen Colbert and his Super PAC adventures, and while it doesn’t provide any particularly new information for fans, it does contain maybe my favorite correction ever: An earlier version of this article misspelled part of the title of a segment of “The Daily Show” that featured Colbert. It was “Even Stevphen,” not “Stephven.”
  • Writers Guild of America nominations are out today, and they almost, almost got it perfect. Breaking Bad, Homeland, Game of Thrones and Boardwalk Empire all got nominations for best drama series, and Parks and Recreation, Louie and 30 Rock all got best comedy nominations - but sadly, no nominations at all for Community. Le sigh. Well, it’s still considerably better than any other awards group has done this year, so thanks writers. I guess.
  • And finally, in news sure to throw all retro 1950s homemakers into despair, Martha Stewart’s daytime show has been canceled. On the bright side, this does leave Martha with more time to pursue her other passions, such as insider trading.
